"NAILED!"
- Weald Community Church, Henfield
A fairly common outburst you might say for a job well done, a shot on goal, or for an opponent who is in imminent danger of losing....
It is ironic therefore that God could say this about the job His Son performed
on the cross over two thousand years ago.
Jesus allowed himself to be nailed to a cross and be subjected
to the most horrific means of execution that the Romans had been able to
devise (and they were experts in the subject).
In the process of being nailed to a cross, dying and rising again from death
three days later, God nailed our enemy and completed the route to salvation
for all mankind. So much had been predicted in the Old Testament prophecies
and yet when it actually happened, no-one was aware of God's plan unfolding
before their very eyes.
Easter is nearly upon us and it gives us the opportunity to wonder why we
call Good Friday "Good" at all. Wasn't this the day Jesus' enemies
finally defeated him and got the Romans to carry out their barbaric execution;
and yet this was our Good Friday as Jesus proved when three days later,
on Easter morning, he rose from the grave to prove that he had defeated
death and could set us free.
The churches of the village will be marching up the High Street this year on Good Friday as we remember the price that was paid, before celebrating on Easter morning the victory that was won;
Why not come and see the results of God's nailed job this
Easter?
