Scout & Guide Spirit Flame
In 1907 Lord Baden-Powell started Scouting at Brownsea Island with the first ever Scout camp. To celebrate the centenary of the Scouting Movement a flame was lit in Nyeri, Kenya at his burial place in Febuary 2007. This flame is being carried by Scouts & Guides from Kenya to Brownsea Island. The flame will have travelled through Africa and Europe and arrives in England on the 28th July2007.
It will be collected at Dover by Kent Scouts & Guides who will take it by various means to Bodiam Castle where it will be handed over to Sussex Scouts & Guides for the next leg of its journey. This handover will take place at 1pm on Sunday 29th July 2007.
The Sussex Scouts & Guides will take the flame across Sussex on an open top double decker bus to Petersfield where it will be handed over to Hampshire Scouts & Guides on Monday 30th July 2007.
You
will be able to see the flame on its journey across Sussex as it is paraded
through the following towns & villages:

- Heathfield 3.15pm,
- Newick 4.15pm,

It will then spend the night at Henfield, which is home to the world's oldest existing Scout troop.

Colin Samson, Chairman of the Henfield Baden Powell Guild commented:
"This is a unique international event of which the Henfield Branch of the Baden Powell Guild is extremely proud to be involved. Thousands of people across Africa and Europe have celebrated this event and we will be doing the same in a Sussex way by holding an evening Jamboree. We look forward to seeing you along the route and sharing this wonderful occasion with you."
