HOPE 2007

True Community Spirit

- Christine Short, Weald Community Church, Henfield

Kim Mustafa (owner) and Nick Ward (manager) of Budgens in Henfield had no hesitation when asked if they would provide a trolley dash for the HOPE 2007 Salsa Night Raffle.

Nick Ward loves bringing community together and has taken steps to introduce locally produced quality products to Budgens in Henfield.

Nick, Dan & Annie with £308.05 of groceries. Phew! Trolley Dashed!

The trolley dash was enthusiastically performed by Dan and Annie, at 8.30am on Sunday 12th August. The goods scooped amounted to £308.05. A bottle of wine and family joint of beef was generously added. The groceries will be charitably shared with deserving friends.

HOPE 2007 (26th - 29th July 2007) started as an idea from Kevin Jemmett to provide practical help within the community of Henfield.

Volunteers from Weald Community Church with Corpus Christi Catholic Church, The Evangelical Free Church & St Peter’s Church worked together, planting gardens, mending gates, decorating and other household repairs. Prayer requests were also attended to.

The marquee at Kings Field came alive each morning with the Kids Holiday Club, for 6 - 10 year olds.

A well attended Seniors Coffee Morning was held at the Free Church, with an enlightening talk by Ray Fox from Woods Mill.

The Canvas Café provided a relaxing place to chill out, with plenty of cakes, ice cream, drinks and free daily papers on offer.

Gener8 was a brilliant evening on Friday attracting many youths with a mix of great music and games.

The Salsa Night on Saturday evening was a huge success, raising £650 for HART (Henfield Area Response Team). The Henfield Hall resonated with exciting salsa music performed by Contra Banda. Dance lessons were included and immensely enjoyed.

The raffle prizes were spectacular. Many thanks to all the local people and businesses who contributed so generously. Congratulations to Maggie & Kevin who won the trolley dash at Budgens and then graciously gave it to Dan & Annie. Also congratulations to Sophie who won a Peek a boo voucher to have a 4D baby imaging scan.

P D James winners Sally _ JuergenA silent auction was held for a signed P D James novel, with part of the original manuscript. The excited successful bidders were Sally and Juergen.

On the Sunday, approximately 120 attended an amazing free, open invite, hog roast at Kings Field, followed by a service at 3pm. The children from holiday club sang and representatives from all the churches in Henfield came together to worship God. Face painting by Marilyn & Jo (Smarty Arty’s) plus bouncy castles and other entertainment were provided.

HOPE stands for Henfield’s Opportunity to Provide Encouragement, and HOPE 2007 certainly excelled and exceeded all expectations, forging many new friendships and links in the village.
